My name is Tom Fysh, an EX Royal Air Force Personal Trainer and Parachute instructor.
I grew up as the oldest of five. I was always the active kid who couldn’t go a day without doing something.
When my younger brother was born, he was a little different than the rest.
He was born with Down Syndrome, and for most of my life, I strived to be a good role model and take care of him.

I got into football (soccer for my American people) and boxing just to know how to fight in case something got out of hand.
One year, I got obsessed with CrossFit…
It was competitive, and it made me feel alive.
That was until I pushed it too far and felt something pull at my lower back.
It was weird, but with all the adrenaline running through my veins, I didn’t give it much attention.
The next morning…
I woke up at 4 am with RAGING 😡 lower back pain; for a second, I thought I was sleeping on a bed of knives.
With every inch I moved, the pain shot up my back like a lightning bolt.
Little did I know that weird feeling was going to make me bed-bound for 4 months.
My RAF military training was fast approaching, and…
I could barely move. Walking to the fridge felt like a marathon.
I couldn’t bend down to wash my face without making a noise.
It was horrible, without a doubt, one of the worst pains I've been through in my 32 years of living.
All these years, I was the guy my little brother looked up to… He put all his trust in me; he knew that I would be there for him.
But now I was stuck; it felt like living in an invisible prison.
Everything I wanted to do was right there, but I couldn’t do it.
Was this the end of it all for me?
Was I going to become the broken guy that would only worsen over time?

After a month of “resting,” nothing seemed to change.
The pain didn’t go away; it, at best, went from level a nine to maybe a seven.
As I lay in bed with shooting pains… I only had two options:

I could muster up the pain I was in and uncover what led me to this raging pain and what I had to do to escape it and feel free again. If I don’t do it, who would?

The next morning, I fired up my laptop and started searching…
“How do I get rid of back pain?”
“The best way to alleviate back pain?”
“What to do if you have back pain?”
With twenty tabs open, I read and read and read until late afternoon….
The same old things came up.
Try yoga, and do more stretching…
I tried them for about 3 weeks, but every session was a nightmare.
It felt like someone was digging their knuckles into my back.
Then you had the typical “Go see your GP or try a physiotherapist or chiropractor.”
At this time I didn’t have much money but I took all I had, a couple thousand British pounds, and forced myself to the clinic.
They cracked me, they made me do these weird exercises, and it felt good for about a week…
Before the pain crept back in.
I did the cold therapy thing. Iced my back every hour for 10-20 minutes.
But that was a headache.
It was frustrating because all these so-called solutions did nothing for me…
I was still in pain, but I knew this wasn’t going to be it.
So I kept researching…
That’s when I stumbled on an interesting article that changed my whole perspective…
I talked about how our ancestors didn’t experience the type of joint pain we have today.

So that got me thinking: What did they have that we don’t?
We live in the most advanced period of time with the best healthcare and technology…
But we are in more pain than ever. It didn’t make sense.
I bought a bunch of anatomy books and read dozens of research papers.
It didn’t click at first, but the body was designed to ALWAYS be moving and used to its fullest.
Our ancestors didn’t have the CONVENIENCE of modern living we have today.
They had to hunt for food, climb trees, carry things and travel for miles every day.
Their bodies were being used to their full potential.
In today’s modern world, we don’t do that anymore.
We have desk jobs, or we work in places where we don’t have to move much…
We have things delivered to our door…
We drive from place to place…
We go to the store to get food…
Compared to our ancestors, we hardly move, which is ONE of the reasons we are in so much pain.
This made sense, but then again, I was an active guy, so why was I in pain?
That’s when I looked at how our joints were meant to move…
When I compared that to what I was doing in the gym, it all clicked.
All the squats, bench press, shoulder press, bicep curls…
Every movement you do in the gym or on the field only reaches 40-50% of your joint's full movement.
When you don’t give your joints complete movement, they forget how to move into those positions safely…
Which creates WEAK SPOTS inside our joints.
I uncovered that when you have these weak spots, it’s due to one (or more) of these three reasons:
This makes your bones “rusty” and causes friction, which leads to pain.
The delicate tissue that holds all the things inside our joints together becomes stiff, which reduces your range of motion.
3. The muscles around your joint(s) are unstable.
Every joint has muscles around it that keep it stable; when these are not trained effectively, any unnatural movement makes your joints bail on you.
Modern living has made our lives better, but our joints worse.
It shocked me to know that I had a WEAK SPOT, even though I was always the active guy.
So I asked myself…
How do you fix these weak spots so I can get my life on track?
After about a month of reading, finding out how the body works, and looking at our ancestors… I figured out the real problem.
Now, I needed to figure out how to eliminate these weak spots so I could escape this bed-bounding pain and get back to being myself again.
Something kept pulling me back to the stuff I had read about our ancestors.
Everything they did required them to move, to go under things, to squat all the way down, to crawl, etc.
They did it all which is why THEY didn’t have weak spots. And so very little if not any joint pain.
In other words, their day-to-day life allowed them to build up STRONG joint capsules that kept them away from joint pain.
From that moment, I knew that I had to make my joint capsule stronger if I ever wanted to escape joint pain.
I locked myself in a room for 6 months to figure out how to move my body.
I’d spend 2-3 hours a day going through different programs and looking deep into the anatomy of the body.
How were we meant to move?
That one question opened the gate to uncovering what I like to call the Supple Movements.
I tried all the programs from people that had years of knowledge and they worked, but something was missing.
That’s when I had to use my experience and trial and error to adapt these movements for me so I could finally get out of pain.
The Supple Movements are a set of slow, controlled, and tensioned movements you do throughout every joint, which allow you to:

It wasn’t instant, but week after week, I was escaping the pain.
I could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
My raging pain was fading away, and I was becoming myself again…
I got back into the gym, and it felt wonderful.
My sleep improved; I wasn’t waking up in the middle of the night…
What really got me smiling and a little teary was when my little brother ran into my arms with a huge smile on his face.
I felt like a real man again.
The guy who could stand up and be the role model everyone looked up to.
I felt like a kid at Christmas once I escaped the pain. It sounds cheesy, but it’s real.
While I was doing all of this work, my dad, who’s in his 70s, was having hip pain from his arthritis.
So I went to him and showed him exactly what I discovered.
I walked him through all the movements in every joint, and he followed along.
Slowly and slowly moved after being inactive for years.
His hip pain decreased over the span of a month…
Then it got even better, and after 3 months, he felt alive again.
All of this got me thinking about how many normal people out there are struggling…

Will this work for me if I have arthritis or an autoimmune condition that causes joint pain?
